Karl Wirsum (1939-2021), a member of the Hairy Who in the early 1960s, developed a style that combines a graphic sensibility — vivid, flat colors; simplified, cartoon-life figures — with a sense of humor evident in the work as well as the titles. His work exists in the space between real and imaginary; the domestic mundane and the superpowered; day-to-day life and daydreams.
